(Note that this is general information and is not presented as specific legal or tax advice. Please consult with your tax advisor or attorney on what options are right for you.)

Thank you for your interest in supporting Cal-IPC’s work in the future. Bequests can go directly to Cal-IPC or to our endowment. These two options are described below, and sample language is provided for several optional vehicles.

  • Gifts directly to Cal-IPC will support high-priority programs immediately. The sample language below is written for donors giving directly to Cal-IPC.
  • Gifts to Cal-IPC’s endowment will support Cal-IPC’s work over time for the long-term. The language below can be used for this by substituting in “the Cal-IPC Wildland Stewardship Endowment Fund of the Marin Community Foundation, to support the work of the California Invasive Plant Council, a California nonprofit corporation, Tax ID 68-0289333.” (Estate trustees or executors of a will can contact Lizzie Cairns, Senior Accountant at the Marin Community Foundation at 415.464.2514 or lcairns@marincf.org, 5 Hamilton Landing, Suite 200, Novato, CA 94949.)

Percentage of estate: “I [name], of [city, state, ZIP], give, devise, and bequeath to California Invasive Plant Council, a nonprofit corporation, organized and existing under the laws of the State of California, and with the principal business address of 855 Marina Bay Parkway, Suite 250, Richmond, CA 94804, (Federal Tax ID 68-0289333), ____% of my estate for its unrestricted use and purpose.”

Specific amount: “I [name], of [city, state, ZIP], give, devise, and bequeath to California Invasive Plant Council, a nonprofit corporation, organized and existing under the laws of the State of California, and with the principal business address of 855 Marina Bay Parkway, Suite 250, Richmond, CA 94804, (Federal Tax ID 68-0289333), [the sum of $_________], [_____ shares of stock in (Company)] for its unrestricted use and purpose.”

Residual funds: I [name], of [city, state, ZIP], give, devise and bequeath to California Invasive Plant Council, a nonprofit corporation, organized and existing under the laws of the State of California, and with the principal business address of 855 Marina Bay Parkway, Suite 250, Richmond, CA 94804, (Federal Tax ID 68-0289333) _________% of the residue of my estate.

Contingent: “In the event of death of my beneficiary/ies, I give, devise, and bequeath to the California Invasive Plant Council, a nonprofit corporation, organized and existing under the laws of the State of California, and with principal business address of 855 Marina Bay Parkway, Suite 250, Richmond, CA 94804, (Federal Tax ID 68-0289333), [percentage, specific, or residual language above] for its unrestricted use and purpose.”

The above language is for unrestricted gifts — Cal-IPC can use the funds where they are needed most. If you prefer to make a restricted gift, please contact Cal-IPC staff. The more narrowly you restrict the use of your bequest, the greater the risk that the program you want to benefit today may not be as relevant when we receive your gift in the future, and it may not be possible to accept the gift.
