Location, Directions & Lodging

    Getting to Chico

    • Driving Directions: Chico is 90 miles north of Sacramento on Hwy 99. Driving directions to CSU Chico...
    • Campus map: Bell Memorial Union is in the West Central section.
    • Carpools: Use our online ride board (coming this summer) to find rides and save money on gas!
    • Parking: Free parking will be available on a designated level of the campus parking garage and in designated lots. More details will be posted when available. Campus parking website...
    • Airlines: United Express flies to the Chico Municipal Airport from San Francisco. The next closest airports are in Redding and Sacramento. Redding is served by Horizon Air from Los Angeles and United Express from San Francisco. Shuttle service between the Sacramento airport and Chico is available through North Valley Shuttle (530-891-1219, www.northvalleyshuttle.com). Reservations are required.
    • Train: Amtrak offers service to Chico through a bus connection from Sacramento.
    • Bus: Greyhound also offers service to Chico.
    • Carbon offets: If you are concerned about the carbon emissions created by your travel to the Symposium, please visit the EPA's Personal Emissions Calculator to determine your "carbon footprint." Then donate to the organization of your choice, such as Terrapass or the Pacific Forest Trust.


    Lodging

    We have reserved blocks of rooms at several hotels in Chico. Please read the information below carefully, as rates and reservation instructions vary. You will need to call hotels rather than booking through their websites. Reserve early, as most rooms are not guaranteed after August and the Symposium coincides with the U.S. National Yo-Yo Contest! Unless otherwise noted, rooms are available at the stated rates for the nights of September 30-October 3. (Zip code for all hotels is 95928.)

    Walking Distance to Symposium

    • Days Inn - 740 Broadway, (530) 343-3286, Single queen $69+tx or double $79+tx.www.daysinnchico.com. Ask for "rooms held at the group rate for the California Invasive Plant Council, start date 9/30". These rooms will be held until 9/15.

    • Holiday Inn - 685 Manzanita Court, (530)345-2491, 2.1 mi from the university, Single or double occupancy $109+tx. Ask for "rooms held at the group rate of $109 for the California Invasive Plant Council room block, start date 9/30". Rooms will be held until 8/30.
    • Oxford Suites - 2035 Business Lane, (530) 899-9090, 2.8 mi from the university, www.oxfordsuiteschico.com. Not a formal room block but they expect to have plenty of rooms available. Tell them you're with a Chico State conference and ask for the corporate rate of $102+tx. State employees can receive a government rate of $84.
